I couldn’t agree more with these sentiments, especially that if we do not wake up and start talking about something other than how bad a mistake it was to get into Iraq or how evil President Bush is, then we’re going to wake up one day without the freedom everyone takes for granted in America.

What Jesus Did For Us

In church on Sunday, they showed an exceptionally well-done video, which demonstrated in a very artistic way who Jesus Christ is and what he does for those with eyes to see life for what it really is. It’s an easy thing to get/be caught up in the “life” that life has to offer. Those with eyes to see Jesus offering more than any other thing we might call “real” experience a better way … the way for which they were created, as this video demonstrates.

Thousands of years ago, through the prophet Jeremiah, God spoke these chilling words about us, that still ring true today… “My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.” (Jeremiah 2:13 NIV) Many times in my life, I have done exactly what this passage and this video depict. God help me / us to turn back from the choices that would lead us to death, and embrace living water from a spring that will not rundry.

Today, it’s Philippians 2:1-11

For months, this has been a struggle for me, and I woke up this morning to it again. Thought I’d share. I wonder if I will ever learn to be humble before even people with whom I disagree or who treat me poorly. Not sure that’s the kind of thing most people ever “conquer”, but I’m praying today for a little more wisdom and a little more patience than yesterday…

If you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.

Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus:
Who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be grasped,
but made himself nothing,
taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to death—
even death on a cross!
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
