Deep Thoughts on Intentionality

I received this from my friend Ian in a Christmas eCard. I thought this quote was quite deep, and worth posting. I wonder if anyone would disagree.

Watch your thoughts; they become your words.
Watch your words; they become your actions.
Watch your actions; they become your habits.
Watch your habits; they become your character.
Watch your character for it will become your destiny.

It’s a sobering thought to know that our character is always in formation, and that our thoughts are always contributing. I find that even when my words or my habits are good, my thoughts are hard to control. Scripture tells us to “take every thought captive”, which is just another way of emphasizing the need for self-discipline and is supportive of these very Biblical thoughts Ian shared in his Christmas greeting – which is about intentionality.

I wonder how our society would be different if everyone started with a solid moral authority and worked hard to applied the truth of Ian’s message to their lives.
